The Majesty and Glory of Your Name
This beautiful piece was a favorite of our choir many years ago. It was simple to sing, yet majestic in its presentation. And we had the most patient of choir directors and an organist who was the principal cellist in the symphony, but had taught himself to play the organ. We were a rag tag group, except for a few very fine musicians and vocalists. But we sang this piece with great happiness and joy.
In the Daily Office readings this morning, both the psalm and the New Testament readings reference the line, "what are mortals that you are mindful of them?"
People I love are facing this last day of May with heartbreak and fear; the suffocation of grief and disease seem interminable. And yet, perhaps this reminder of the mighty power of God, the majesty, the glory, and God's charge of all creation might bring comfort as we start the day.
As Jesus says at the end of today's gospel, "And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age."
Dear God, Be our comfort on this journey, our balm in Gilead, our hope, our peace.
When I gaze into the night skies and see the work of your fingers; The moon and stars suspended in space.
Oh, what is man that you are mindful of him? You have given man a crown of glory and honor, And have made him a little lower than the angels. You have put him in charge of all creation: beasts of the field, The birds of the air, The fish of the sea. Oh, what is man? Oh, what is man that you are mindful of him?
O Lord, our God the majesty and glory of your name Transcends the earth and fills the heavens. O Lord, our God; little children praise You perfectly, And so would we. And so would we.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
The majesty and glory of Your name.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
The majesty and glory of Your name.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Alleluia! (Alleluia!)
