Dag Hammarskjöld: Global Peacemaker
A Swedish diplomat, economist and author, Dag Hammarskjöld was best known for the influence of his Christian faith on his global peacemaking. He was elected the second Secretary-General of the United Nations and served from 1953 until his death on September 18, 1961.
He is remembered in A Great Cloud of Witnesses for his powerful witness to the integration of action and contemplation, as he often said, "In our age, the road to holiness necessarily passes through the world of action."
Hammarskjöld was one of many of God's people who seek to proclaim the Good news in an increasingly polarized and dangerous world.
His life begs the question: "Where am I called to proclaim the Good News even in a polarized and dangerous world?"
Any thoughts?
