Go Forth for God!

Increase and multiply upon us your mercy; that, with you as our ruler and guide, we may so pass through things temporal, that we lose not the things eternal;
Collect appointed for Sunday closest to July 27.
Life is full of things temporal; we don't have to look far to see them. Most recently an issue about whose values to which one should align has raised its ugly head in my little world, and much divisive language and harboring of bad feelings has emerged. Thinking I would be a good John Lewis, I stepped into the fray speaking in support of a friend and fellow parishioner who was being maligned for his sexual orientation when it has nothing to do with the job for which he has been nominated.
The collect above has stopped me in my tracks, but not before a voice in the night said, "Step out of that fray." A little good trouble is not good for me...it gets blown out of proportion and hypes up my emotional meter leaving me rattled and confused. This collect brings me great peace as I pray for God's mercy to increase and multiply in me and pray to "pass through things temporal" keeping my eye on the prize of things eternal. "Let go, let God," has new meaning for me this morning. As Thomas Merton said, "Don't stain the joy of the Cosmic Dance."
This hymn comes to mind as I step into the day!

Easy to step into the fray, even when it is wiser to step back. Wisdom comes with age. . .Charlene
