God's Great Reminder

He shall live as long as the sun and moon endure, *

from one generation to another. Psalm 72

I once received a Christmas card from a dear friend, and this line from Psalm 72 was the inscription. Thus each time it pops up in the Daily Office readings I am reminded of my friend, her family and our friendship. The memory endures just as the sun and moon endure "from one generation to another." In this time of brutal bickering and political bantering, it is refreshing to be reminded of the endurance of the love of God...especially by a full moon so bright it lights the sky. Wherever you are today, try to get a glimpse of God's great reminder, like a rainbow, a promise in the sky

that God shall deliver the poor who cries out in distress, *

and the oppressed who has no helper.

God shall have pity on the lowly and poor; *

he shall preserve the lives of the needy.

God shall redeem their lives from oppression and violence, *

and dear shall their blood be in his sight.
