Holy Silence, Holy Waiting
Psalm 62. 6
For God alone my soul in silence waits; *truly, my hope is in him.
Psalm 62, one of two psalms appointed for today, emphasizes one of the major themes of the Psalms: hope. The psalmist expresses despair, fear "like a trembling child," and yet faithfully accepts the freedom and guidance that rest in Silence. "For you are the Heart of my heart, You speak to me in the Silence," Nan Merrill's translation says in Praying with the Psalms.
What does the silence of a soul waiting look like? Where do you find yourself in the Heart of God? When have you known God as your refuge?
Regularly I am reminded of answers to these questions when I listen to people's stories. We are people of the Story - our individual stories, our community stories and the Great Story. Perhaps in the Holy Silence of listening to each other, we find ourselves in the Heart of God and know God as refuge. Whose story could you listen to today?
