How will God clean up our messes?

The devil had already put it into the heart of Judas son of Simon Iscariot to betray him. John 13. 2
Well known and beloved theologian and Episcopal priest John Claypool said something about Judas Iscariot that we must never forget. In conversation about Judas' life, Claypool said, "The real tragedy was not the betrayal of Jesus so much as it was that Judas didn't stay around to see how God would clean up his mess!" My friend BT who is a devotee of John Claypool has committed to memory so many of his nuggets like this and offers them in our small groups at just the right time. This one has been very present in our discussions this Holy Week. Just imagine what God could have done for Judas in the vein of forgiveness, reconciliation and redemption. I even have a vision of what Judas' reconciliation with Jesus might have been like during his resurrected time. But alas, all we can hold on to is the notion that perhaps Judas gained entry into life eternal, and there he was fully restored and discovered the meaning of forgiveness.
As so often happens, we are given the benefit of hindsight. During this Holy Week and especially today on Maundy Thursday, let us pause and ponder how God will clean up our messes. I can't wait to see what God does with mine!!!
