My Shepherd Will Supply My Need

"There would I find a settled rest, while others go and come;

no more a stranger or a guest, but like a child at home."

In my dear friend Bob Dannals' meditation this morning, he points out the power of this line from Isaac Watt's beautiful hymn. We all long for settled rest...like a child at home, unconditional belonging as Bob calls it.

What does that settled rest look like? Bob suggests that the characteristics are love and thankfulness. The idyllic "child at home" belonging, though not present for so many, is made possible in an environment of unconditional love. And so I urge us all to offer that environment in all that we say and do in these days ahead, as we continue in pandemic-tide; gift your world with all the love and thankfulness you can muster. Your inner child will rest better and so will the inner childs of those around you.
