Repent and Prepare!!!

“See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you,who will prepare your way;

the voice of one crying out in the wilderness:‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight,’”

Isaiah 1. 1 - 8

Today is the day our appointed gospel reminds us that the prophecy of Isaiah was fulfilled...we remember that the messenger was John the Baptist, and he made a big splash and got everyone's attention! "Prepare the way," he said, get your life in order repent, turn and listen. The one who is coming will be your Savior. The rough places in your life will be made smooth, the hills and valleys will be made level.

This clip from the 20th century play Godspell is one of my favorite depictions of how we are called to respond to John the Baptist's proclamation. Enjoy it and let yourself wonder where you need to kick off your shoes or turn and run! (I know many of you know this clip, but it makes me so happy to watch it and put myself into that scene!)
