Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. John 14. 23 - 29

The peace Jesus promises in these words to the disciples from the Gospel of John is not peace as the world defines it. It is the knowledge that the God of Peace will not abandon us in our isolation or despair. It is the call to hope founded in one who has met death and emerged victorious. As the passage from Revelation appointed for today says, it is living a life that "has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God is its light."

The words to this hymn, written by William Alexander Percy Southern lawyer, planter and poet, describe that peace impeccably..."it is no peace, but strife closed in the sod...that marvelous peace of God." With this peace, we can be Light-bearers even in the darkest of places.
