There is no other!
For thus says the Lord, Who created the heavens, Who is God, Who formed the earth and made it, Who has established it, Who did not create it in vain, Who formed it to be inhabited: “I am the Lord, and there is no other.”Isaiah 45:18
These powerful words from the book of Isaiah today remind us of the grandeur of God, as Gerard Manley Hopkins called it. In Robert Alter's translation of Isaiah, he says "Fashioner of earth and its Maker...Not for nothing did He create it, to dwell there he fashioned it."
The power of this prophecy challenges us never to lose our focus on the presence of God "I am the Lord and there is no other" needs an exclamation point! God inhabits the earth; God fashioned it dwell here!
In these bleak days when some say that the world is "going to hell in a handbasket" and warring tribes kill and maim because they believe they are right, we MUST focus on these words from Isaiah and interpretations of them like the song below.
Your mercy flows like a river so wide,
And healing comes from Your hands.
Suffering children are safe in Your arms,
There is none like You,
Oh, there is none like you.
