This day we call Good?

"...he said, ‘It is finished.’ Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit." John 18.30

This depiction of the crucified cross from the cover of Sam Wells' book A Cross in the Heart of God: Reflections on the Death of Christ is blown up a bit to give us an idea of what the scene might look like seen through the tears of Creation. This day is too painful to call Good. As Rev. Wells said in his book Being With, when Jesus asks from the cross "My God my God why have you forsaken me?" there is a moment when the Father and the Son are separated, just a moment and the only moment in history. In order for us to live into the full power of the Resurrection, perhaps we must pause breathless this day remembering that moment of separation.
