Using the Gifts
There's a beautiful little book by Curtis Almquist, Episcopal priest and Superior of Society of Saint John the Evangelist, called Unwrapping the Gifts: The Twelve Days of Christmas. I should have offered it here sooner, but truthfully the gifts we receive can be used all year, can't they? In this book, Curtis offers a word for each day of the twelve days and looks at it as a gift. It is fitting that in this season of Epiphany we reflect on the gifts we have received in honor of the birth of Christ and put them to good use in the new year.
The gifts are:
Love
Revelation
Forgiveness
Joy
Hope
Redemption
Name
Humility
Companionship
Gratitude
Peace
Blessing
As we have reflected on words for our new year, I thought looking at these words/gifts might be an excellent way to kindle our spiritual lives and find new meaning and direction. Also perhaps we might look at the giver of the gifts and the recipient of the gifts. Who gave you companionship and to whom have you given peace?
Just a little project for the year.
