"Together we can do what I cannot do alone."

In a world already rattled by war and furor, the unspeakable tragedy in -the hill country of Texas seems to have put us all over the edge. Messages of comfort and support fill the pages of social media, and any other messages seem superfluous and insignificant. Isn't that the way it is in grief...it is like quicksand that swallows you up.

I have noticed the voices of comfort and support professing the quote above from the Mourner's Path grief program...together we can do what I/you cannot do alone. "Put your hand in mine and I will walk with you," strangers are saying to each other.

Many of you may have already seen this beautiful prayer, but I am compelled to share it, because it reminds me of the holy work of Mourner's Path. It acknowledges the acuteness of the pain and also the profound comfort and mercy of the love of Jesus...the peace that passes all understanding.

Written by Tina Francis, a writer and digital creator, she precedes the prayer with these words:

When things fall apart, we do what we can. We document the pain. We etch names into rocks, into the bark of trees, into park benches. We scrape SOS into sand. We light candles. We scribble our hopes on—receipts and gum wrappers, from the bottom of our bags.

We send flares to the cosmic divine.

We call our mothers.

We call out to Mary.

So here’s mine. For our girls...

Such an extraordinary statement of togetherness.
