What Really Matters
Luke 1. 39 = 57 He has brought down the powerful from their thrones, and lifted up the lowly;
he has filled the hungry with good things, and sent the rich away empty.
On this day in the church calendar we remember the Visitation of Mary to her cousin Elizabeth and their delight with each other as they shared the joy of their pregnancies. Mary's song in this passage, also known as the Magnificat, praises God and gives thanks for the privilege of giving birth to the promised Messiah. She also outlines the great good that God has done, including the line above.
In response to the jury verdict "heard 'round the world" yesterday, I am reminded of what really matters. Howard Thurman's quote about Christmas makes it clear. Regardless of who is the president and/or how many law suits are pending, our work still needs to be done.
