Your God Language

And how is it that we hear, each of us, in our own native language? Acts 2. 1 - 21

On this day in many churches as we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit and the official birthday of the church, people stand up and read this passage from the Acts of the Apostles in many different languages all at the same time. It is one of my very favorite liturgical events in the church, because it reminds me so deeply of the myriad ways humans understand God.

Give yourself five minutes, listen to savor the variety of tongues and how many thousands of people would literally understand each of the speakers and yet figuratively understand them all. As I read this passage (in English) this morning, I wondered what is my God Language, and I give great thanks that I have come to understand other people's God Language. I pray that I will continue to understand even more the God languages of others.

Happy Pentecost, my friends.
