On this day in history...In 1968, immediately after he announced to his cheering supporters that the country was ready to end its fractious divisions, Robert Kennedy was shot several times by 22-year-old Palestinian Sirhan Sirhan.

Do you remember where you were that day? I was staying with family friends in a neighboring village in Cornwall, England where we were living at the time. We had just made egg and bacon sandwiches, and the announcement came over the radio. Our friends the Crones had three girls and I suddenly felt so embarrassed that this had happened in my country.

I am embarrassed now.
