Love and Leftovers
John 6. 1 - 21
“Gather up the fragments left over, so that nothing may be lost.” So they gathered them up, and from the fragments of the five barley loaves, left by those who had eaten, they filled twelve baskets.
In her meditation this morning, our beloved Dean Kate asked the question, "What is this miracle all about?" and her response was "how we see the world and what we already have...Jesus wants us to make the most of what we already have."
"That got me to thinking" as they say...what do we already have? If we leave out the material and such things that are just things, what we really have is Love and lots of it...and since Love begets Love, it multiplies like the fishes and the loaves. And when I come to a dead end in a relationship or in a conflict or in the face of illness one thing that there is never a scarcity of is Love. I dare say, if we think we have run out of Love, we need only look around at the crumbs and leftovers of our loving to find enough to " fill twelve baskets."
Remember:
Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable; it keeps no record of wrongs; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 1 Corinthians 13. 4 - 7
