Return to Rest

In the Eucharistic Lectionary for today, the appointed gospel is Matthew 11:28-30:

‘Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.’

As though the authors of Pray as You Go read my meditation from yesterday, this one offers a reprieve from the discomfort of the wilderness I mentioned . Complemented with the Porter's Gate version of the psalm, the readers encourage us to tell God about our weariness or burden and then listen for the voice of Jesus who says, "I will give you rest." And they go a step farther suggesting pauses during the day to listen for the voice of Christ. Join me this day, returning to rest and the arms of the Christ. This is what we are waiting for!
